BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The second suspect was arraigned in court Thursday afternoon in connection to a high-speed police chase that resulted in the death of a bystander.
Isaih Andrade, 21, was the only passenger in the vehicle allegedly driven by Gabriel Lopez, 20, on Saturday when the vehicle crashed into and killed a bystander while fleeing from officers.

Andrade faces four gun-related charges and two misdemeanor counts of resisting an officer. A not guilty plea was entered on Andrade’s behalf for five separate cases during his first court appearance.
A prosecutor said Andrade is the “very definition of flight risk” and that someone else could die if released because he encouraged Lopez to drive dangerously.
Andrade also allegedly sold fentanyl and meth to homeless people, the prosecutor said.
He argued Andrade should be held on $5 million bail, $1 million for each case on which he was arraigned.
Andrade is being held on no bail. His preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 23.
Lopez was charged with vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, evading a peace officer causing serious bodily injury and speeding in excess of 100 mph. He was arraigned Wednesday.
At around 1:30 a.m. Sept. 5, Bakersfield police officers were chasing two men fleeing in a vehicle near Clover Mountain Court and Pine Meadow Drive.
Officers were trying to arrest Andrade in connection to gun and gang-related offenses, according to officials. Andrade allegedly got in a vehicle and Lopez began driving away at high speeds.
They were driving southbound on Airport Drive near Olive Drive when Lopez tried to avoid the spike strips placed by officers in advance, but lost control and struck a man on the sidewalk, police said.

The bystander, 22-year-old Kevin Daniel Stevens, was sitting on a bus bench. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Lopez and Andrade tried to flee but were taken into custody. They were taken to a hospital for treatment, according to police.
According to court records, Andrade has a lengthy criminal history with pending cases accusing him of drug possession and transportation for sale, as well as driving under the influence of a drug. In a case filed late 2025, he was charged with evading a peace officer and intentionally driving the wrong way to get away.
