The Fullerton Elks Lodge hosted a Prom Event for children with special needs and their families on August 29. This marked the first time the Lodge organized such a celebration, which complements other annual events for these children. Approximately 85 children and family members attended.
Before the event, guests were served a variety of appetizers, followed by a plated dinner that included salad, cooked carrots, mashed potatoes, grilled chicken, and steak. Iced tea, lemonade, and soda were also available, along with desserts provided by Nothing Bundt Cakes of Brea. All meals and drinks were offered free of charge.
One Lodge member created a photo backdrop adorned with balloons and a banner reading “Prom 2026.” Each child received a prom sash, and corsages and boutonnieres were crafted for all attendees, including the volunteers, by a Lodge member who crocheted them.
A live band played music, and many enjoyed dancing and having fun.
The event wouldn’t have been possible without the support of 24 dedicated volunteers. Some greeted attendees, while others assisted with cooking, serving, bussing, taking photos, and cleaning up. One member contacted their car club, Old School Bombs, which brought five classic automobiles that served as a charming backdrop for photos outside the Lodge. Upon entering, guests were greeted by a red carpet, which added to the special ambiance of the evening.
The Lodge has maintained a Special Child Program since 1985, typically hosting four private events each year for families involved in the program. These gatherings provide parents with an opportunity for a little respite from the continuous care their children require, allowing the kids to simply enjoy themselves.
