The Bakersfield Fire Department and the Bakersfield Police Department will host two public ceremonies today at Bakersfield Fire Station No. 15 at 1315 Buena Vista Road in southwest Bakersfield.
The reason: to remember what we must not forget — even though sometimes we may want to.
The morning ceremony is at 9:30 a.m. It is dedicated to remembering the 2,977 people killed in the deadliest terrorist attacks in American history.
The evening ceremony is to begin at 7:30 p.m. and will feature a special roll call in partnership with the Portrait of a Warrior Gallery to memorialize 27 Kern County residents who were called to duty in the wake of 9/11, and who later gave their lives in the performance of their duty.
Free parking and shuttle services will be available at The Park at River Walk for both the morning and evening events.
