BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Two suspects wanted by McFarland police are accused of killing Alfonzo Jacobo last month at a laundromat.
Officials are offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to the arrest of both 18-year-old Joshua Cortez and 19-year-old Elvis Garcia.
The incident dates back to August 22, 2026, at around 3:18 p.m., when officers responded to a reported shooting at a laundromat in the 100 block of West Perkins Avenue in the City of McFarland.
There, they found McFarland resident Alfonzo Jacobo Espitia suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He died at the scene, said the coroner.
McFarland PD detectives determined that Cortez and Garcia entered the laundromat before the shooting, and that Cortez, a Richgrove resident, confronted Jacobo and shot him multiple times, according to police. Cortez, a documented Norteño gang member, was identified by investigators based on past law enforcement contact and corroborating evidence.
Garcia entered the laundromat with Cortez and is alleged to have been involved in the homicide, said officials.
Joshua Cortez and Elvis Garcia are wanted by McFarland police.
Cortez is wanted for a violation of first-degree murder. Both Garcia and Cortez remain at large and should be considered armed and dangerous.
The public is urged not to approach or attempt to detain either suspect. Anyone who sees Cortez or Garcia should contact law enforcement immediately.
Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Joshua Cortez or Elvis Garcia, or anyone with information related to this homicide investigation, is urged to contact the McFarland Police Department at (661) 792-2121 or your local law enforcement agency.
