These five eccentric spas are the perfect addition to a luxury Los Angeles self-care day
What’s a self-care day without a little extra indulgence? No day of pampering is complete without the addition of a facial or massage, and Los Angeles spas have taken the art of pampering well beyond the ordinary. In lieu of this, Los Angeles magazine is rounding up a list of the most eccentric and unique treatments offered in L.A..
Sous LA Face
Sous LA Face, located in West Hollywood, prioritizes treatments for imperfections we cannot see with lymphatic drainage and lymphatic facial sculpting.
The spa’s signature service is its RRR (Reroute. Release. Resculpt) Face facial, which their website advertises as the ideal treatment for Premieres. Press days. Campaign shoots. Weddings. Events. Content creation — incredibly fitting for an Angeleno crowd. Comprising a buccal massage, Deep Sculpting Strokes, and Lymphatic Drainage, the facial promises a visibly depuffed face and released jaw tension.
Sous LA also offers monthly memberships for $229 or $449, with the former including a facial, 2 recovery room visits, and discounts, and the latter offering 2 facials, 4 recovery room visits, and similar benefits.
Formula Fig
Formula Fig is what a spa in your favorite science-fiction novel would look like; its forest-green, aesthetically pleasing amenities closely resemble the concept in Scott Westerfeld’s novel “Uglies.” It promotes high-tech facials and expert injectables.
Surprisingly, Formula Fig offers more affordable facial options than others on this list, with the cheapest at $ 99. New guests can even book their most inclusive “All-in” facial for $99, while the regular price is $185.

If you’re not sure which facial suits you best, the clinic also offers a free consultation that you can book.
L’ermitage Spa
The L’ermitage Hotel’s spa offers all the classic treatments: massages that target various muscles and joints, facials, and more. However, what makes this spa unique enough to be featured on this list is the Sound Experience.
The hotel spa features a Sava Sound Pod by Tersa that looks like a spaceship escape pod, which makes me think maybe the wellness industry gets a substantial portion of its inspiration from the sci-fi genre.
L’ermitage website raises high expectations for this amenity, noting “each session encourages emotional release, restores balance, and leaves you feeling calmer, more focused, and renewed,” through a technological meditation designed to regulate the nervous system.
Head Spa Nagomi
The Nagomi Head Spa takes pride in being the only truly authentic Japanese head spa certified by the Zudo Academy in Japan, founded by master cosmetologist Tatsuya Yamasaki.
Having experienced a Head Spa treatment in London, I can confidently say that anyone deeply anxious would benefit from it. However, this clinic goes beyond the usual by customizing the customer experience to prolong results, offering long-term fixes instead of short-term relief.
One of the visiting guests offered high praise, noting it was “unlike anything else in Beverly Hills.” The spa’s intentionality is also emphasized in the owner’s mission, which states that her purpose is to make guests feel deeply cared for.
Ritz-Carlton Spa
The Ritz may be a familiar brand; however, most people probably haven’t heard of their “matcha” spa treatment. If you’re like me and just got excited by the mere mention of the grass drink, this one’s for you.
Recently, in May, the Ritz-Carlton Spa announced it would add a new category to its catalog: Los Angeles Cafe Moments. The category features two different treatments. The Expresso Limon Body Slimming Wrap combines Hinoki oil cleansing, gentle gua sha sculpting, and a hydrating Tulsi Snow Mushroom cleanse.
The second treatment, though, is the real star of the show. The “Matcha Renewal Facial” gets its name from both the vitamin-rich matcha serum included in the package and the actual drinkable matcha offered before and after the service. Your iron levels may take a hit after this facial, but you’ll be relaxed enough that you won’t care.
