A 27-year-old man pleaded guilty Friday and was sentenced to more than 23 years in prison for fatally shooting a 17-year-old boy in Anaheim.
Christian Alberto Nava pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and a drive-by shooting, both felonies. He also pleaded guilty to misdemeanor counts of assault and battery and admitted a sentencing enhancement for the personal use of a gun.
As part of his plea deal with prosecutors, a count of murder was dismissed.
Nava pleaded guilty to shooting Johnny Avalos in the chest at 2248 W. Colchester Drive, near Brookhurst Street, on June 27, 2021.
Nava was sentenced to 23 years and two months in prison. He has 2,091 days credit behind bars, nearly 5 3/4 years.
