A pedestrian was killed Friday morning after being struck by a vehicle on a Fresno highway.
The incident happened at 5:50 a.m. when the California Highway Patrol received calls about a pedestrian lying in the southbound lanes of Highway 99, south of Ventura Street.
CHP spokesperson Mike Salas said the pedestrian attempted to cross the southbound lanes of Highway 99. After reaching the No. 1 lane, he was struck by a 2017 Chevrolet SUV traveling south.
The driver pulled onto the right shoulder and called 911. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
Salas said it’s unknown if the pedestrian was impaired.
The investigation is ongoing.
