A woman in California was arrested and charged with murder after allegedly killing two friends in separate violent incidents for reasons that remain unclear.
The Milpitas Police Department announced the arrest of Anila Baby for an alleged fatal hit-and-run on Facebook. On Tuesday, September 8, the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office charged her with murder in connection with a second killing that occurred later in the day.
According to the Milpitas Police Department, police responded to a call about a woman being struck by a blue SUV in the parking lot of an apartment complex. Anjana Hari sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene.
KRON4 reported that Baby, 32, knew Hari. A witness told the outlet that Baby and Hari were friends who lived in the same apartment complex and did not appear to be arguing before the incident. The witness said the victim appeared happy and carefree as they walked in the parking lot. However, when Hari walked in front of the vehicle, it suddenly accelerated from a stopped position and struck her and three other cars before the driver, Baby, fled the scene.
About two hours later, police responded to an apartment in San Jose, about nine miles away, where they found another victim suffering from a stab wound, according to a police press release. After an investigation, police determined that Baby knew the second victim and placed her at the scene.
Baby was discovered in a Walgreens parking lot in an SUV consistent with damage from the hit-and-run incident. She was taken into custody and later charged with murder. According to court records viewed by the National Enquirer, she is due in court to make a plea on November 11.
