The Bulldogs ran into a bit of a buzzsaw last week, as they were trampled by USC 39-0. Fresno State had no answers for potential Heisman Trophy candidate Jayden Maiava and nothing to bring to the table on the offensive side of the ball.

Fresno State takes on a Sacramento State team who played the “USC role” a week ago, trouncing Mississippi Valley State 52-0. The Hornets are hoping to represent the MAC in commendable fashion, as they just joined the conference for football within the last couple months.

Despite Fresno State’s struggles out of the gate last week, the odds remain in their favor for a bounce back game. To be fair, there really isn’t anywhere to go but up for the Bulldogs, who passed for a total of 77 yards last week, and whose leading rusher scampered for 21 yards.

While Sacramento State did whatever they pleased last week, the Hornets fell in their first conference game in Week 0 28-17 to Eastern Michigan. The Hornets had trouble containing the high octane passing attack of Noah Kim and Eastern Michigan, but should have decent success slowing down Jayden Mandal.

Expect Fresno State to come out with a lot more energy against a team they should beat at home, but thinking this will be a complete one-sided affair would seem to be a mistake.

Prediction: Fresno State 26, Sacramento State 17
