The Friends of the Carmel Valley Library will welcome back Brazilian pianist Vania Pimentel on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 6:30 p.m. A soloist with the Chamber Orchestra of São Paulo at just 13, Pimentel went on to earn top honors at the J.S. Bach International Piano Competition in Paris and the Jaén Competition in Spain, and holds a doctorate in piano performance from the University of Houston, a news release stated.
Her program celebrates the rich, rhythmic sound of Brazil, featuring works by Brasílio Itiberê, Chiquinha Gonzaga, Heitor Villa-Lobos, Lorenzo Fernandez, Radamés Gnattali, and Marlos Nobre, and closes with Manuel de Falla’s fiery Ritual Dance of Fire.
The concert will take place at the Carmel Valley Library, located at 3919 Townsgate Drive, Carmel Valley. This one-hour program is free and open to the public. Donations are gratefully accepted to support future cultural events, the news release stated.
