ORLAND, Calif. – A missing 14-year-old from Orland was safely recovered in Oakland after a multi-agency investigation led to the arrest of a 32-year-old man. The Orland Police Department responded to a report of the missing teen in the 900 block of Watts Avenue in Orland on September 11, at approximately 8:20 a.m.
Officers determined the circumstances surrounding the disappearance were suspicious and contacted the Federal Bureau of Investigation Chico field office for assistance. Investigators reviewed cell phone information, surveillance footage and conducted interviews to develop leads.
Through the investigation, officers determined the teen had traveled with an adult man to Oakland. The Orland Police Department coordinated with multiple law enforcement agencies and responded to Oakland to locate the teen.
With assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation Chico and San Francisco field offices, Glenn County Sheriff’s Office, Glenn County District Attorney’s Office, Glenn County Victim/Witness Assistance Center, California Highway Patrol, Oakland Police Department and Oakland Housing Authority Police, officers successfully located and safely recovered the teen. The 32-year-old man was taken into custody by the Orland Police Department in connection with the investigation.
Officers transported the man back to Glenn County and booked him into the Glenn County Jail. The teen was safely returned home.
The investigation remains ongoing. Due to the age of the victim and the sensitive nature of the investigation, no additional information will be released.
