LA HABRA HEIGHTS, Calif. (KABC) — Forward progress of a brush fire burning in La Habra Heights has been stopped, fire officials said. The blaze burned at least four structures and injured two people, including a firefighter, after erupting Monday afternoon.
The so-called Palos Fire broke out shortly before 2:30 p.m. and burned almost 20 acres within about an hour. The fire is 41% contained as of 4:48 p.m., fire officials said.
Firefighters declared a second alarm fire, which escalates emergency response and increases the number of resources.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department said the blaze was spreading at a moderate rate of spread before its forward progress was stopped.
In addition to the four structures burning in the area, the fire was threatening other structures nearby on N. Casalero Dr., according to fire officials.
Two homes were destroyed and two outbuildings suffered significant damage.
The fire forced the evacuation of least six homes, with evacuees heading to nearby Los Altos High School, 15325 Robles Ave., in Hacienda Heights, according to a deputy at the sheriff’s Industry station.

A brush fire in the La Habra Heights area has burned at least three structures and threatens others after erupting Monday afternoon.
Fire officials said that one firefighter was injured battling the blaze and another person was injured during the course of the fire. The nature and extent of their injuries were not immediately known.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
