Driver killed in fiery crash in Sacramento County, CHP says
A driver died following a single-vehicle fiery crash Monday night on the Hazel Avenue Bridge in Sacramento County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP said the vehicle overturned on Hazel Avenue before catching fire. The driver was trapped before the vehicle was engulfed in flames. Officers tried rescuing the driver, but were unsuccessful.
The driver died as a result of the crash.
Two officers sustained minor injuries while attempting to save the driver from the burning vehicle.
Witness statements indicate speed is suspected to be a factor, CHP said.
It’s unknown if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
CHP said southbound lanes of Hazel Avenue are closed due to the crash. Only one northbound lane is open.
All northbound lanes are expected to be reopen soon. Estimated time of reopening is unknown for the southbound lanes, CHP said.
