San Jose officer fired after using Flock camera data for cousin accused of domestic violence

David GrovesSAN JOSE, Calif. —

A San Jose Police Department officer has been fired after investigators said he accessed Flock camera data on his personal cellphone to track down a woman accusing his cousin of domestic violence.

The San Jose Police Department stated that officers are now prohibited from accessing sensitive law enforcement databases on personal devices and announced plans to conduct monthly audits.

“I was furious. I was furious that an officer would betray the public trust in that manner, that he would not understand how serious of a violation this is,” San Jose Police Chief Paul Joseph said.

The case comes amid growing privacy concerns over Flock camera technology across Northern California and the nation.
