Investigators on Tuesday were looking for a driver responsible for a late-night hit-and-run that killed a bicyclist in Sacramento’s Parkway neighborhood.
The fatal hit-and-run was reported shortly after 3 a.m. Monday at Luther Drive and Florin Road. Patrol officers arrived and found a man who had been riding a bicycle when he was struck by a vehicle, the Sacramento Police Department said in a news release.
Police said the bicyclist was found suffering from life-threatening injuries. Medics arrived and attempted life-saving measures, but they pronounced the man dead at the scene.
The vehicle involved in the collision left the area before officers arrived.
Detectives from the department’s Major Collision Investigation unit, along with crime scene investigators, took over the investigation. They collected evidence and canvassed the area for witnesses. Police said the circumstances surrounding the hit-and-run remained under investigation.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the man’s name and age after his family has been notified.
