A car-to-car shooting that left a driver critically wounded apparently arose from a dispute outside a Sam’s Club, the Sacramento County sheriff’s office said.
The target of the shooting, which took place about 6 p.m. Wednesday, was a vehicle carrying two adults and two children. The man suffered multiple gunshot wounds; a baby’s car seat was also struck, but none of the passengers was injured.
Investigators determined that the driver had been involved in an argument minutes earlier at a Sam’s Club store in Florin, at Sacramento’s southeast edge. One of the disputants apparently drove after the other, and the shooting happened about a mile away, the sheriff’s report said.
The shooter fled, and no arrest was announced Wednesday night.
The attack continued a violent week on Sacramento-area roads:
— On Tuesday afternoon, a 38-year-old woman was fatally shot outside a Panera by a man who the sheriff’s office said had been stalking and harassing her. Pursued by sheriff’s deputies, the suspected attacker pulled over on Highway 50; he was found dead of what was believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
— Late Monday, a driver was fatally shot by one or more law enforcement officers after a pursuit ended on Highway 50 in the Lake Natoma area. The agencies involved have not said why the person was pursued or what led to the shooting.
