Former mail carrier in Fresno charged with hoarding 8,500 undelivered letters

FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — A former mail carrier is facing federal charges after investigators said he kept thousands of pieces of mail instead of delivering them.

53-year-old Ronald Juckno of Fresno was arrested on Friday following an indictment charging him with keeping and failing to deliver the mail, U.S. Attorney Eric Grant said.

Juckno is scheduled to make his initial court appearance on Monday.

Court records say that between August and September 2024, Juckno was found in possession of more than 8,500 pieces of mail that he allegedly held onto and failed to deliver to customers.

The mail included items described as sensitive, including California EDD correspondence, financial records, insurance records, medical correspondence, tax records, and utility bills.

After the discovery, Juckno was placed on leave and later resigned his position as a mail carrier, according to court records.

The USPS Office of Inspector General conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Joshua Banister and Joseph Barton are prosecuting the case.

If convicted, Juckno faces a maximum sentence of five years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
