With how chaotic football Saturdays are throughout the season, it is understandable how some players, especially at G5 schools, may be overlooked. But that shouldn’t be the case with San Jose State redshirt sophomore wide receiver Danny Scudero, whose play this season has earned him more attention.

Scudero, 5-foot-9 and 175-pounds, transferred to San Jose State from FCS Sacramento State during the last portal cycle without much fanfare. After redshirting in 2023, he impressed last season with 53 receptions for 667 yards and five touchdowns.

However, there likely aren’t many people who envisioned him dominating at San Jose State the way he has. It started immediately during the season opener against Central Michigan when Scudero finished with nine receptions for 189 yards and one touchdown. Since then, he has had at least five receptions in every game and more than 129 yards five times.

A few of his performances stand out. Against Wyoming he had 10 receptions for 180 yards and a school record four touchdowns and then against Hawaii he had seven receptions for 215 yards and two touchdowns. And if you’re wondering how he did against P4 competition, against Texas and Stanford he totaled 18 receptions for 195 yards and two touchdowns.

Overall, this season he has 68 receptions for an FBS-leading 1,126 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Whenever the season ends for the Spartans, Scudero will have some important decisions to make. While his size isn’t going to make anyone confuse him with Jeremiah Smith, his level of production is undeniable and would make him an extremely interesting player in the portal.

Whatever his decision turns out to be, keep Scudero’s name on your mind because you’ll be hearing of it again.
