BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The Bakersfield Police Department is holding a press conference on a joint project between the Bakersfield Police Department, Kern Secret Witness and Robert Petersen, host of the “Notorious Bakersfield” podcast.
The project is designed to help in the closing of a Bakersfield cold case from 1923.
According to a newspaper article from the Bakersfield Californian published on April 21, 1923, a body of a woman, between the ages of 25 and 30, was found in the same canal where a baby boy’s body was taken.
The newspaper article said, “Wounds on the body sufficient to have caused death were revealed by a cursory examination of the officers, proving conclusively that a double murder had been committed, that the woman had first been slain and her body thrown into the swirling waters of the canal and that the baby boy had been tossed into the stream yet alive.”
