CELEBRATING ITS 250TH BIRTHDAY. IT WAS NOVEMBER 10TH, 1775. THE JOHN ADAMS DRAFTED A RESOLUTION THAT CREATED WHAT WAS THEN KNOWN AS THE CONTINENTAL MARINES. THAT DATE IS NOW OBSERVED AS THE BIRTH DATE OF THE U.S. MARINE CORPS. CELEBRATIONS HAVE BEEN TAKING PLACE ACROSS THE COUNTRY IN THE WEEKS LEADING UP TO THE ANNIVERSARY, INCLUDING THE ANNUAL MARINE CORPS BALL THAT VICE PRESIDENT J.D. VANCE ATTENDED IN WASHINGTON, D.C. OVER THE WEEKEND. THE U.S. MINT HAS ALSO UNVEILED A SPECIAL COMMEMORATIVE COIN TO HONOR THE RICH HISTORY OF THE MARINES, AND THERE ARE SEVERAL EVENTS HAPPENING ACROSS THE REGION TO CELEBRATE THE MARINE CORPS BIRTHDAY IN MANTECA, THE CITY AND THE MANTECA POLICE DEPARTMENT WILL HONOR THE LEGACY OF COURAGE, DISCIPLINE AND SERVICE TO OUR NATION AT THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS ON WEST CENTER STREET. THE OLDEST AND THE YOUNGEST MEMBERS OF THE MARINES WILL ATTEND. ALL ARE INVITED AND THERE WILL BE CAKE. IT STARTS AT 1230 AND THEN GOES UNTIL 130. IN SACRAMENTO. The Marine Corps is celebrating its 250th birthday, marking the anniversary of John Adams drafting a resolution on Nov. 10, 1775, that created the Continental Marines.Celebrations have been taking place across the country in the weeks leading up to the anniversary. The U.S. Mint has unveiled a special commemorative coin to honor the rich history of the Marines. In Manteca, the city and the Manteca Police Department will honor the legacy of courage, discipline, and service to the nation at the council chambers on West Center Street. The oldest and youngest members of the Marines will attend, and all are invited to join the celebration, which includes cake. The event starts at 12:30 p.m. and goes until 1:30 p.m.In Sacramento, Sacramento State will host a gathering in Lassen Hall for students, staff, and faculty. This event begins at 1 p.m. and continues until 3 p.m., with cake provided.In El Dorado Hills, Marines and veterans will gather at Dry Diggings Distillery to raise a glass to the Marine Corps. This celebration starts at 3 p.m.Friends of Folsom have also organized an event Monday at Pied Piper Lounge at noon.
