Re “Trump, hoping to salvage midterms, makes dubious pledge to give every US adult $5,000 if GOP wins” (Sept. 10): If President Trump’s promise of $5,000 to every adult U.S. citizen if Republicans win the House and Senate is not illegal election interference, I don’t know what would be. The Supreme Court has to squash this immediately and completely.
But suppose this promise is allowed to stand. The odds of Trump actually delivering are low to nonexistent based on previous failed promises, but if he does deliver, the huge trillions in cost will be borne not by Trump or the GOP but by you and me (i.e., by precisely those who receive the $5,000) as we deal with the further increase in the national debt. Smoke and mirrors.
