Sacramento truck driver injured in Wyoming stabbing, local Sikh organization says
A truck driver who was stabbed in Wyoming earlier this month is from Sacramento, according to the Jakara Movement, a California-based Sikh community organization.
The organization identified the stabbing victim as Gurvinder Singh. The Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office in Wyoming said the stabbing happened at 3:27 a.m. on Sept. 13 near a rest area on Interstate 80.
Deputies found a man suffering from cuts and stab wounds and detectives later determined the suspect fled the scene in a tractor-trailer, the sheriff’s office said. The suspect was later found in Rawlins, Wyoming, by highway patrol and arrested for attempted homicide, the sheriff’s office told KCRA 3.
Both the Jakara Movement and the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office said that a family followed the stabbing suspect on the highway and directed law enforcement to his location.
Jasjit Singh, the director of legal services for the Jakara Movement, told KCRA 3 he went to Wyoming to speak with Gurvinder Singh, who is still in the hospital for treatment of his stabbing injuries.
A GoFundMe has been set up for Gurvinder Singh’s medical expenses.
