Bakersfield police arrested 23 people across a large swath of the city’s core Wednesday in the latest sweep targeting encampments and trespassers.
A news release late Friday afternoon by the Bakersfield Police Department said the arrests were preceded by outreach efforts conducted by Flood Bakersfield Ministries. It said the nonprofit’s work led to eight people finding shelter at the Brundage Lane Navigation Center.
The release noted one dog was taken into protective custody.
Those arrested are suspected of crimes ranging from obstructing a sidewalk to resisting a peace officer to possession of a controlled substance, according to Friday’s release.
