One of San Diego’s most iconic coastal destinations is preparing for a major closure. California State Parks announced that the historic Torrey Pines Lodge and its surrounding hiking trails will close for extensive construction starting Monday, Sept. 21, 2026.
CBS 8 reports the closures mark the beginning of phase two of a sweeping modernization project at the Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve, an eco-tourism hotspot that draws roughly four million visitors annually.
While hikers will temporarily lose access to the iconic sandstone cliffs and trails, coastal access remains unaffected.
The South Beach and North Beach parking lots will remain open, and Torrey Pines State Beach will stay fully accessible to the public throughout the construction period, which is expected to conclude by early 2027.
