Miep Sturrus
OBITUARY
Marie “Miep” Bol was born in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, the second of four children. In 1954, she married Hendrik “Hank” Arie Sturrus, whom she loved deeply throughout their marriage. In 1957, they moved to San Jose, California, to begin their life in the United States. They had two daughters, Sandy and Nanette.
As equal partners, Miep and Hank started a drapery business, Foothill Draperies, where they made and sold custom European sheers, drapes and valances. Their business grew to four locations throughout Santa Clara County and lasted for ~35 years.
They raised their family in Almaden Valley and were charter members of Almaden Golf and Country Club, where they enjoyed many years of golfing and socializing.
In 2006, Miep and Hank moved to The Villages community in San Jose. After Hank passed away in 2021, Miep moved to Los Altos in 2023.
Miep was proud of her family and took great joy in watching her children and grandchildren grow. She is survived by her daughters, Sandy (David) Parker and Nanette (Thomas) Malgesini; her six grandchildren: Nicholas Parker, Joey Malgesini, Noah Parker, Alexis Malgesini, Tristan May, and Johanna Flowers; her great-granddaughter, Daphne Parker, and her brother, Hans Bol.
Miep loved dancing with Hank, playing card games, gardening – especially tending to her flowers – and creating a beautiful home where she enjoyed entertaining friends and family. Those who knew her will remember her strength, kindness and love. Miep passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Los Altos, California.
