Placer County deputies search for armed suspect, Iowa Hill residents asked to stay inside
Deputies are searching for an armed and dangerous suspect who was last seen in the Iowa Hill area of Placer County, according to the sheriff’s office.
Derek Spencer, 44, is wanted for pointing a firearm at people in Placer County on Sunday, in addition to other felonies. The sheriff’s office said that when Spencer was found by deputies, around 10:30 a.m., he rammed into one of their patrol vehicles and fled the area.
Spencer later fired shots at law enforcement and a sheriff’s officer helicopter, officials said. Iowa Hill residents are being asked to lock their doors and remain inside.
The sheriff’s office described Spencer as a bald man with a goatee wearing a black T-shirt and released a mugshot of him.
The Foresthill Fire Protection District said there is a fire near Iowa Hill Road that fire crews can not effort because it’s in close proximity to the active shooter search.
