Sheriff’s deputies say 25-year-old Derek Spratley was arrested Monday at a home in Santee.
SANTEE, Calif. — The victim of a Santee homicide and his grandson, who is suspected of killing him earlier this week, were identified by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office Saturday.
Deputies responded Monday afternoon to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon at a residence in the 10800 block of Grand Fork Drive, where they found Gregory Roundy suffering from traumatic injuries, homicide detectives said in a statement Saturday.

“Shortly afterward, deputies contacted Derek Spratley on the property, also suffering from visible injuries,” Lt. Juan Marquez said. “Paramedics responded and pronounced Mr. Roundy deceased at approximately 2:30 p.m. Mr. Spratley was transported to a local hospital and was medically cleared the same day.”
Spratley, 25, of Santee, was arrested and booked into the San Diego Central Jail on Monday night on suspicion of murdering his grandfather. He was being held without bail, with his next court appearance scheduled for Dec. 4 in the El Cajon Branch of San Diego County Superior Court.
“The circumstances and motive behind this incident remain under investigation,” Marquez said. “Based on the information gathered so far, this appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no ongoing threat to the community.”
