Re “Bike infrastructure shouldn’t add to local traffic congestion” (Sept. 13): Steve Kolokowsky is exactly correct in his comments regarding the lack of connectivity of bike routes. There is a beautiful bike path adjacent to I-15 from Kensington down the hill to Camino del Rio South. And there is a beautiful bike path from the SDSU/San Diego River Park to Murphy Canyon Road. However, there is no connection across I-8 and the river, which makes it impossible to continue on this route.
A decade ago, as the city of San Diego bike coordinator, I found a solution to this problem. By suspending a bike lane off the east side of the southbound I-15 to Camino del Rio South off-ramp bridge, a connection could be provided. This is a very important gap in the bike lane connection, and should be closed with this cost-effective addition.
