A 45-year-old man was sentenced last week to 22 years in state prison for fatally shooting the new boyfriend of his ex-girlfriend inside a North Long Beach home in 2023, court records show.
Oscar Alejandro Chan on Friday, Sept. 18, pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter in connection with the fatal shooting of Mario Gallegos, 44, in the 6200 block of California Avenue in North Long Beach.
A judge handed him the sentence at the same hearing, court records show.
Police were called to the home just after 6:30 a.m. on May 10, 2023, and officers found Gallegos with a gunshot wound to the upper body. He died at the scene.
Chan was arrested later that day in Santa Fe Springs.
Police said Chan showed up unannounced to the ex-girlfriend’s house and fought with Gallegos before shooting him in the upper body.
