One southbound lane on Espola Road will be closed temporarily starting Monday for a hazardous tree mitigation project.
The lane will be closed from Trailwind to Summer Sage roads between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on weekdays only.
The duration of the lane closures is not yet known. The project involves maneuvering equipment through dense pockets of trees while complying with biological requirements, said city of Poway spokesperson Rene Carmichael.

The mitigation project is needed to safely remove trees that are a potential fire hazard.
“The city of Poway is moving forward with two projects aimed at making emergency evacuation routes safer for residents in the event of a wildfire, while improving the overall health of trees along main traffic corridors, rights-of-way and open spaces,” the city’s website states.
Similar work has already been completed on Twin Peaks Road between Midland and Pomerado roads. The work was temporarily halted due to bird nesting season, Carmichael said.
