BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Bakersfield Police Department’s Impact Team led a multi-agency operation aimed at addressing public safety, health and quality of life concerns in part of downtown Bakersfield.
The operation specifically targeted reports of unlawful lodging public nuisance and during activity within parts of the city bounded by F Street, Truxtun and Union avenues and 30th Street, BPD said.
The department said before the operation started, Flood Ministries conducting outreach efforts to help support and secure housing resources for the unhoused individuals in the area.
BPD Flood’s outreach helped get eight people placed at the Brundage Lane Navigation Center.
Through the response that brought together, Bakersfield law and code enforcement, Animal Control, medical services, mental health professionals and other professions, 23 people were arrested for various offenses, including quality-of-life, trespassing and narcotics.
BPD said one dog was taken in as well.
The department said other offenses included obstructing a public sidewalk, being under the influence of a controlled substance, lodging in a public place, maintaining or committing a public nuisance, resisting or obstructing a peace officer, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

BPD said the arrests were made at several locations around downtown including : 100 block of 19th Street, 1111 21st Street, 3000 block of Chester Avenue, 2900 block of Chester
Avenue, 200 block of 19th Street, 1101 19th Street, 1202 19th Street, 100 block of 18th Street and 1800 block of 23rd Street.
“The Bakersfield Police Department recognizes the need for collaborative efforts to solve the issues facing our community and is dedicated to continuing these efforts,” BPD said in a press release on Friday.
The department is urging residents to contact BPD’s Community Vitality branch for non-emergency homeless-related issues like encampments, trespassing, trash and debris related to homelessness and general outreach for unhoused individuals.
