BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Drivers are continuing to deal with a major closure along Truxtun Avenue as a city road rehabilitation project misses its expected completion date.
The City of Bakersfield said the project, which was expected to be completed by September 20, has been delayed.
That means the on-ramp from Truxtun Avenue to the westbound Westside Parkway remains closed, a closure that has contributed to traffic delays in the area.
The City originally said the ramp would be closed from September 7 through September 14 while crews constructed new concrete barriers and installed new guardrail.
However, the closure has continued beyond that original timeframe.
The City said the contractor is waiting on materials needed to complete the project according to the agreement’s specifications and safety requirements.
“We expect that to be finished in the coming weeks,” the City said.
The City did not provide a specific new completion date.
The broader Truxtun Avenue rehabilitation project includes removing existing asphalt and repaving the roadway, installing thermoplastic and green methyl methacrylate striping and lane markings, adjusting existing manholes and water valves, constructing a new median nose and adjusting monument encasements.

The project covers Truxtun Avenue between Coffee Road and Bahamas Drive.
The City said traffic controls will remain in place as needed while work continues.
