BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Prosecutors on Monday brought a charge of first-degree murder against a man accused of killing his girlfriend in late July.
Alfonso Rosales-Ortiz, 34, had a not guilty plea entered on his behalf by a deputy public defender. He’s being held without bail and is due back in court Oct. 1.
Ariana Rangel Ortega, 31, was found unresponsive July 21 at a home on Monahan Street in southwest Bakersfield. She was taken to Mercy Hospital Southwest where she was pronounced dead the same day.
Homicide detectives with the Bakersfield Police Department gathered evidence implicating Rosales-Ortiz, police said. The couple had a history of domestic violence incidents, according to a BPD release.
Coroner’s officials said Ortega died of strangulation and blunt force injuries.
