LONG BEACH, Miss. (WLOX) — A lockdown has been lifted at Long Beach High School and all other schools in the district.
“We want to reassure our families and community that our students and staff are safe,” the school district said in a statement on social media.
The lockdown began around 10:30 Monday morning due to a potential threat, according to the school district.
Long Beach Police Chief Billy Seal confirmed the threat was made specifically to the high school.
Officials with the Long Beach Police Department, along with the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office, the Gulfport Police Department, and the Biloxi Police Department, assisted on the scene.
Officials said an increased law enforcement presence may still be noticeable around schools as an additional precaution.
The investigation into the threat is ongoing.
