BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A pedestrian is in the hospital after being struck by a truck on southbound Highway 99 near Panama Road Monday evening.
The California Highway Patrol said on Monday, September 21, 2026, at around 6:30 p.m., officers responded to a crash between a vehicle and pedestrian in the area of southbound Highway 99, just north of Panama Lane.
CHP said a preliminary investigation found that a Toyota pickup truck was driving in an unknown lane at an unknown speed southbound on Highway 99. At the same time, an unknown male pedestrian was on the freeway walking in an unknown direction.
The Toyota struck the male pedestrian.
CHP said after the crash, the driver of the pickup truck remained on scene and cooperated with investigators.
The male pedestrian was taken to Kern Medical with severe injuries.
CHP said it is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor for the pedestrian. Alcohol and/or drugs were not a factor in this crash for the driver of the Toyota.
The roadway was momentarily blocked while we concluded this investigation.
