BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The Bakersfield Police Department issued a community advisory regarding the social media trend known as the “Cat N The Hat.”
In a social media post, it said the trend has been associated with swatting-style threats targeting schools.
“In Bakersfield, there are reports of this trend occurring at some of our schools,” said in the post. “To date, all threats associated with this trend have been assessed as non-credible.”
Police said community members are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any credible threats, suspicious activity, or emerging online trends that may present a risk to schools, students, or the public.
Those who encounter threatening content can report it to the appropriate law enforcement agency.

Earlier this month, Kern High School District and Bakersfield police investigated social media threats toward Bakersfield High School and found them not credible.
Other school districts that were also impacted by the trend include the Taft Union High School District and the Arvin Union School District.
