Woman with a knife barricaded inside Sacramento home after reports of assault, police say
SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
A woman allegedly armed with a knife is barricaded inside her home at a Sacramento apartment complex after two people went to the hospital following reports of an assault, according to police.
The Sacramento Police Department said officers responded after 6:30 p.m. Tuesday to reports of an assault in the 20 block of Howe Avenue near Highway 50 and north of Folsom Boulevard.
Police said the woman punched a 15-year-old and the teenager’s parent sustained a minor injury. They were both sent to the hospital following the attack.
The woman also allegedly swung a knife at a victim, police said.
A SWAT team and crisis negotiators were deployed to the Powell’s Landing apartment complex to try to get the woman to surrender.
Ian Johnson, who lives in the complex, told KCRA 3’s Anahita Jafary he was inside his room when he heard a woman fighting with others. He said he tried to pull the woman off the other people, but she started attacking him.
He added that he fought back and she ran off, but came back with a kitchen knife and used it to cut him, leaving a mark on his neck.
“I didn’t even feel it at first because when I drop-kicked her in the face, she got it under my shirt and the knife came and got me,” Johnson said. “I didn’t even realize it. I was so focused on keeping her away from everyone else so no one else got hurt.”
Witnesses also told Jafary that the teen and parent attacked were a mother and daughter.
