Family members of Jampier Quintero, the innocent bystander killed in a gang-related shooting, wept as they watched a surveillance video of the 44-year-old father get gunned down in a barbershop parking lot.
The video was introduced as evidence Tuesday in the preliminary hearing for 18-year-old Kobe Chantharangsy, who is charged with the April 19, 2025, murder of Quintero and the attempted murder of three others.
He is also charged with a gang-related murder enhancement and for using a gun.
The short video shows two men walk into Los Viejones Barbershop at Belmont and Van Ness avenues shortly before 5 p.m. A few minutes later, nearly a dozen people are seen running from the barbershop in all directions.
One of those fleeing was Quintero, who was with his two young children getting haircuts for the upcoming Easter holiday.
As people ran from the shop, Quintero is seen stopping between two cars and holding up his hands as if imploring the gunman not to shoot.
Chantharangsy didn’t listen. He fired his 10 mm pistol at Quintero, killing him, said prosecutor Ismail Aliyev.
Relatives of Quintero’s sobbed quietly as they witnessed his final moments.

Civilian witnesses, including customers and barbers, describe a chaotic scene with gunshots, people panicking and lots of blood.
Barber Efren Romero expected to be busy that Saturday with people needing haircuts before Easter. He was booked but still tried to squeeze in clients he knew, including Freddie Medina.
Unbeknownst to Medina, one of his gang rivals, Chantharangsy, was seated in the next booth, also getting his haircut.
In an interview with detectives, Romero said he noticed Chantharangsy getting antsy and bobbing his head in a taunting manner.
Romero told detectives he asked his client not to start anything, as the shop was full of customers.
At about the same time, two of his client’s friends walked in and quickly said hello. They then turned to Chantharangsy, and Romero said they asked him, “What’s up, you bang?”
“Then everything went from chill to boom,” Romero testified.
Police believe Chantharangsy fired a weapon from underneath his barber’s cape, striking Medina and his friends, Christian Gutierrez and Emilio Rodriguez. All three survived.
Why Chantharangsy shot Quintero is unclear. He wasn’t a gang member and didn’t know the defendant.
Alexander Mendoza and his brother Gabriel were friends of Quintero’s and with him at the barbershop the day of the shooting.
Alexander Mendoza was in the barber chair when the shooting started. Frightened, he ran toward the rear of the shop, then hid behind a chair before going outside.
Not far from the entrance, he found his brother Gabriel with Quintero, who was on the ground and bleeding.
“He was next to his car and my brother was holding him, trying to put pressure on him,” he said.
When asked by the prosecutor if he saw who shot his friend, Alexander Mendoza said yes, stood up and pointed at the defendant.
“Him,” he said.
The preliminary hearing continues Wednesday.
