The California Highway Patrol said on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at around 5:18 a.m., officers were called to South H Street and Houghton Road for a two-vehicle crash.

CHP said traffic at this intersection is regulated by posted stop signs to protect motorists. According to CHP, a preliminary investigation found that a 33-year-old man was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Impala westbound on Houghton Road, east of South H Street. The Impala came to a complete stop at the intersection of Houghton Road and South H Street.

The Impala then began to make a southbound turn onto South H Street from westbound Houghton Road. At the same time, a white 2008 Chevrolet Silverado driven by an unknown male was traveling eastbound on Houghton Road, just west of South H Street. The driver of the Silverado failed to stop at the posted stop sign and continued eastbound at an unknown speed, according to CHP.

CHP said the front of the Silverado struck the right side of the Impala.

CHP said the 33-year-old driver of the Impala sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash. A 45-year-old passenger in the Impala suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Kern Medical.

Chipahua, seated in the front right passenger seat of the Impala, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The unknown male driver of the Silverado left the scene on foot in an unknown direction and is still outstanding.

CHP said it is unknown at this time if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in this crash.

CHP is asking anyone with information or who may have witnessed this incident to contact the Bakersfield Area CHP office at (661) 396-6600.
