LONG BEACH – Police are investigating the death of a pedestrian who was struck by a driver in Long Beach.
The man was hit by a car around 9:05 p.m. Saturday as he crossed Wardlow Road near Norwalk Boulevard, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
When officers arrived at the location, Long Beach Fire Department personnel were treating the man before taking him to a hospital, where he later died, police said.
The man’s identity was withheld pending notification of his family.
“The preliminary investigation indicates a white Honda CR-V, driven by a 56-year-old female resident of Garden Grove, was traveling eastbound on Wardlow Road when it struck the pedestrian who was in the roadway outside of any crosswalk,” according to a police statement. “The driver remained at the scene and was cooperative with the investigation.”
Speed, distracted driving and driving under the influence are not believed to have been factors in the collision, police said.
