A driver struck and killed a woman on a bicycle in East San Jose early Friday morning, police said.

San Jose police responded at 6:15 a.m. to the area of Capitol Expressway and Ocala Avenue on reports of a traffic collision. When authorities arrived, the bicyclist was pronounced dead on the scene.

A preliminary police investigation found that a man driving a 2017 white Ford F-350 pickup truck was traveling northbound on Capitol Expressway through the Ocala Avenue intersection and going through a green light when he struck and killed the woman, who was going east on Ocala.

The driver remained at the crash site and cooperated with investigators, police said. Drugs and alcohol are not suspected, police said. Authorities did not identify the woman killed on Friday.

The incident is the city’s 37th fatal collision and 37th traffic-related death of the year.
