FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A fundraiser in Fresno for Valley Center for the Blind had guests “Dining in the Dark” to understand what a person without sight encounters every day.
“You have a chance to walk in their shoes by wearing a blindfold during several of our courses this evening.”
Shellena Heber is the Executive Director of Valley Center for the Blind.
Guests at the fundraiser at Fresno’s Fort Washington Golf & Country Club were asked to wear blindfolds during two of the evening’s four-course meal.

“When the blindfolds first go on, oftentimes we hear a lot of chatter and a lot of laughter in the room as people try to figure out, ‘ Do I have salad on my fork? Where did I set my water glass?’” Heber said.
“But after a while, it becomes a little bit quiet; that chance to step into what life might be like as a person who’s visually impaired is what makes this event truly unique.”
Proceeds from “Dining in the Dark” directly benefit Valley Center for the Blind’s mission to support, train, and employ people who are blind or have low vision throughout the valley.
