The fearsome, mask-rocking, tentacle-boasting, straight-from-beyond baddies found glowering in your favorite fright flick have a way of staying put on the other side of the silver screen… mostly.
Sometimes, these chill-delivering characters, and the props they wield, and the wicked worlds they inhabit, and the clothing they wear — from striped sweaters to crocheted shawls to gray coveralls — have can suddenly exit the screen and eerily end up in the realm we inhabit.
Good news for mavens of monsters and cinematic shrieks: Several of cinema’s famous costumes and freaky items have monstrously materialized at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures on the Miracle Mile.
Nope, Michael Myers and Freddy Krueger aren’t running amuck, but “The Horror Show,” the museum’s sizable new exhibit set to be on view for the better part of a year, is celebrating the great and ghoulish films that have given us goosebumps over the decades.
In addition to the stroll-through gallery scene — or perhaps we mean “tiptoe,” since we don’t want Freddy or Michael to know we’re there — there’s a screaming, er screening calendar complementing the exhibition.
Feeling quaky? Take a breath, then step inside the spooky galleries by perusing some of the peculiar pictures and zombie-fied snapshots below.
“The Horror Show” opened at the Miracle Mile museum Sept. 26 and will remain on view through July 25, 2027. The museum is recommending “parental guidance,” as some of the exhibition “may not be suitable for all ages”; read more on the Academy Museum site, where tickets are also available.
