Donald March Thompson

OBITUARY

Donald March Thompson, 87, has found peace following his final battle with cancer. His final moments were spent at his home in Fletcher Hills surrounded by his children and wife of 64 years, Geri Thompson.

His passion was helping others, and he spent his life creating opportunities for his entire family to thrive. He attended University of California, Berkeley and graduated from Saint Mary’s College of California. Don’s professional life included active and reserve time served in the U.S. Coast Guard, over thirty years at Crown Zellerbach Corporation, managing his 34-acre almond ranch in Chico, owning and operating coin laundries throughout San Diego County, and investing in Texas real estate.

Don had a habit of collecting friends wherever he would go. Whether they had only met for a moment or known each other their entire lives, he never met someone he could not find good in. Spanning the course of his life, he was an active member of the Fletcher Hills Presbyterian Church and First Presbyterian Church of El Cajon choirs, planted robust rose gardens, and always knew how to make the whole room laugh.

Until his final days, you could find him boogie boarding in the Baja California surf, walking two miles every morning, and making sure to make each moment count. His favorite moments were spent in his backyard, surrounded by family, listening to their laughter, overlooking his rose garden as the sun began to set.

He will be remembered for the love he gave and the lives he touched. Don is survived by his wife Geri, four children — Cyndi Ferguson, Matt (Chrystal) Thompson, David (Bridget) Thompson, and Sarah (Pete) Edwards — nine grandchildren and their spouses, and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial and reception services are to be announced. The family asked that in lieu of gifts, condolences be given in the form of donations to the First Presbyterian Church of El Cajon’s music department.

His memory lives on, and his love continues to be felt. To our Don, Dad, Bop, and Honey: we love you more.
