Re “Elect independents who ask, ‘What’s best for U.S.?’” (Sept. 23): Our two dominant political parties have succumbed to extremists on the left and right to such an extent that the vote of a typical voter is now largely determined by opposition to the other party’s stance rather than enthusiasm for the positions of his or her own party.
We should indeed strongly encourage independent candidates to throw their hats in the ring, thus allowing each of us to vote for rather than against.
