The San Jose Sharks still have a day to submit their finalized roster to the NHL, but it appears they have found their starting 23.

On Sunday, the Sharks put goalie Ilya Samsonov on waivers and sent defenseman Eric Pohlkamp down to the San Jose Barracuda. Both moves are unsurprising. Curtis Pashelka of the Mercury News first reported Pohlkamp’s assignment to the AHL.

While the roster technically has more than 23 players, teams can’t send down injured players, and they will start the regular season with an injury designation. Per the NHL Media Site, the Sharks have 31 active players on their roster.

Injured players on active roster:
Adam Gaudette
Cam Lund
Quentin Musty
Patrick Giles
Kyle Keyser
Alex Barre-Boulet
Mattias Havelid

Gaudette has missed nearly all of training camp due to an upper-body injury. San Jose Sharks head coach Ryan Warsofsky told reporters yesterday that he had finally resumed skating. The team expected the winger to be back on the ice sooner than what transpired.

Giles day to day with an upper-body injury suffered last night. Gaudette is still DTD. Warsofsky says the team was initially expecting him to be back on the ice by now. #SJSharks

Barre-Boulet also DTD
