Re “County leaders push for airport transit progress” (Sept. 19): Recent discussion about connecting San Diego International Airport to the trolley focuses on a people mover that officials say could still be decades and billions of dollars away. But travelers should also know about the public transit options that are available now.

MTS route 992 serves the airport terminals and runs between the airport and downtown San Diego, with a stop near the Santa Fe Depot. From there, passengers can connect with Amtrak, the Coaster and the trolley.

There is also the San Diego Flyer, a free shuttle between the airport and the Old Town Transit Center, where passengers can connect with trolleys, trains and buses. There are also rideshare providers (Uber, Lyft) and taxis available.

As San Diego considers spending billions of dollars on future airport transportation, these existing services should be part of the discussion, and travelers should be made more aware of them.
