A 29-year-old mother celebrating her son’s birthday was killed in a shooting outside Urban Air Adventure Park on Arden Way, as police arrested a man they believe shot two women in a shopping center parking lot Saturday afternoon.
Edward Tucker, 36, is being held at the Sacramento County Jail on homicide charges.
Tucker agreed to meet with ABC10 on Sunday night but did not want to appear on camera. When asked about the charges against him or whether he had a message for the victims’ families, he repeatedly responded, “No comment.”
The family of Samantha Cromwell, the woman who died, said they are heartbroken over her loss. They said Cromwell was at Urban Air celebrating her son’s birthday when her life was taken. The family also said Tucker was her former husband and that he was abusive.
Urban Air Adventure Park reopened Sunday.
The shooting also affected families who were at the birthday party venue when they learned what had happened.
Kyle McManus was there with his young son.
“As the father of a five-year-old child, it definitely has an impact. You think about someone losing their mother, I don’t know all the circumstances of what happened, but it’s just devastating and it’s really bad for the family. Living in the community, you don’t want to see things like that happen,” McManus said.
Witnesses said Saturday’s scene was terrifying, with families rushing to safety with young children when the gunshots went off.
“Everyone here deserves to move around and not feel in danger. And not feel safe. Hopefully the community comes together, learns from this, and we move on,” McManus said.
Tucker has no bond and does not yet have a court date for his arraignment.
ABC10 reached out to the company that operates Urban Air Adventure Park for comment but had not received a response.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Sacramento Police Department. Contact the dispatch center at (916) 808-5471 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP (4357). Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward up to $1,000.
