Authorities pursued a stolen vehicle through four Southern California counties on Monday.

According to Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Capt. John Hajducko, the vehicle was reported stolen out of the Thousand Oaks area around 10:30 a.m. It was not carjacked and no weapon was used, Hajducko said.

Around 20 minutes later, a Moorpark Police Department officer spotted the vehicle and attempted to stop the car when it failed to yield and a pursuit was initiated.

The chase started on the 118 Freeway and continued east before the driver merged onto the 405 Freeway south. CHP units joined the pursuit at the Sepulveda Pass.

By 11:45 a.m., the pursuit had made its way to the 405 and 710 Freeway interchange near the Long Beach Airport.

Approaching noon, the driver was continuing towards Orange County on the 405. They continued south into Irvine by 12:10 p.m.

Approximately 20 minutes later, the driver of the van was still proceeding south and had reached the San Clemente area. Police cars were still in pursuit.

The driver has not been driving at a high rate of speed, instead mostly remaining in the fast lane of the freeway at normal highway speed. However, they have failed to pull over, despite not driving aggressively.

By the time the driver, believed to be a female. reached San Diego County, it was reported that authorities were speaking with one of her family members. A spike strip was deployed north of Camp Pendleton, as evidenced by some damage to the right rear portion of the van, but it did not appear to cause damage to the tire.

In Oceanside, there was much heavier traffic, enabling officers to throw another spike strip. It did not appear to be successful, and the driver continued to go south towards the San Diego area.

Sky5 had to leave the pursuit for fuel as the stolen van continued into San Diego. Units were still chasing it as of 1:15 p.m.

According to Rich Prickett in Sky5, the pursuit had made it to the U.S.-Mexico border by 1:30 p.m.
