The 2026-2027 NHL season is here, as the San Jose Sharks have announced their season-opening roster.
There aren’t many surprises on the Sharks roster, nor were there expected to be after Sunday’s final roster cuts. SHD projected the Sharks roster nearly perfectly, but now that it’s officially released, some players have specific injury designations.
Forwards Adam Gaudette and Alex Barre-Boulet will start the season on injured reserve. Both were injured during training camp. They will be joined on IR by retired forward Logan Couture. Couture last played during the 23-24 season, but still has one year remaining on his contract. Officially, he still must be logged as part of the roster.
The team is also dealing with injuries to prospects like Cam Lund, Quentin Musty, and Mattias Havelid. Along with those three, forward Patrick Giles and goalie Kyle Keyser are listed as non-roster. All five players are injured and, once healthy, will all head to the San Jose Barracuda.
Both Giles and Barre-Boulet will have to clear waivers to be sent down to the AHL once they get healthy.
Only three players on the San Jose Sharks roster will make their opening-night roster for the first time in their careers: Luca Cagnoni, Ivar Stenberg, and Igor Chernyshov.
Brett Leason makes the team out of training camp but could be sent through waivers once Gaudette returns.
The team still has yet to announce the rest of the leadership group behind Macklin Celebrini. The Sharks will announce the rest of the alternate captains sometime before opening night on Oct. 1.
